Communication is key

In an ever evolving world of technology, radio has stood the test of time, which Chris Palliser can attest. Since joining the industry 16 years ago, he has seen two rebrands, many buyouts, station changes and even life changes for himself.
After beginning at camosun shortly after high school, he quickly stumbled upon the ACP program, which focused on film, writing and radio. After a year of study he decided to more seriously focus on Radio and film, and came to finish the program with a better understanding of the industry.
Since Chris was still quite young he was more than happy to do whatever necessary to get an opportunity in radio. Following these years at school he moved to nanaimo for work and soon transferred to Fort McMurray, where he was offered the opportunity of being on air. One thing he continuously mentioned was a sense of community, and how in smaller places like Fort Mcmurray and Nanaimo are great of that. After a few years of this and a change of heart he decided it was time to move back to the coast, and landed in vancouver.
While working or the successful station Beat 94.5, Chris watched as it went through many changes of ownership, all the while staying at the top of the ratings. When it was finally time to re brand, the team that had worked so hard was worried.
“It was scary, no one wanted to push the button” said Chris, but like any good team they continued to put their all into the project and kept the station in high rankings as it had always been. Which all made it easier for Chris to request a change of location last year. While he loved his time in Vancouver his now growing family needed a more laid back, community minded place to settle.
“It was time to come home” said Chris, who had been born and raised on the island. The move back home meant he would be apart of another rebranding, but this time was completely different. This was a celebration, an exciting start of a new chapter, for everyone involved.Chris was paired with another host who was originally from the island and suddenly his message from all along was their brand, being apart of the community, being accessible, and being local were what they would be known for and would be what made them stand out.WHile learning to navigate this new partnership as well as their new demographic they hope their station will continue to climb in rankings
